Syd Barrett, one of the founding members of Pink Floyd, passed away recently at the age of sixty. The announcement was made today.
I grew up with Pink. Atom Heart Mother was the first album I bought and I was transfixed by their acid-trip-inducing music. I remained transfixed long after Syd left the band to become a recluse and Roger Waters took his place but the albums released after "Animals" paled in comparison to "UmmaGumma."
Syd was a genius. He overdid the hallucinogens, as geniuses are wont to do in their relentless search for realms of consciousness far beyond those of which we simple folk can only dream.
Have fun exploring the universe, Syd. Watch over us.
